JAN-NIVERSARY!

The office had an enjoyable outing today when Jan’s 20 years’ service as our secretary was celebrated. The very first assistant, Adrian Moody, and the most recent assistant, Alexa George (No 43), were both there, plus staff, family and friends from nearby offices.

The usual summer get together took place as well, with a Pevsner-style perambulation of current projects in Lincoln High Street, including St Mary-le-Wigford Church, and the Mothers’ Union Centre at St Benedict’s Church for lunch!

Utilities within Churches

Churches continue to be modernised, through the installation of kitchens and access toilets.  Parochial Church Councils raise funds, obtain grants, and have been left legacies to fund these works.

All Saints’ Church, Nocton

At the end of 2009, we were successful in helping the PCC of All Saints' Church in Nocton obtain a joint English Heritage / Heritage Lottery Fund grant to re-roof the nave and chancel. This week, access scaffolding allowed us to examine the churches’ roof and ceiling structures.  These proved to be in good condition, so only re-tiling, and not new timberwork, will be required.  This positive news allows us to proceed with the preparation of documents for the stage one grant application to English Heritage in December.

St Wilfrid's Church, Metheringham

The scheme to repair the dry rot has been completed.  Internally, the beam end, boarding and cornice have all been replaced.  Externally, the church has a new stainless-steel gutter, slates have been replaced, and some stonework has been rebuilt.  The contractor and the PCC had to work around two weddings and the Christmas festival, and the recent period of severe weather, to reach completion.
